The most beautiful of all Dominican percussion folkloric instruments is “The Balsie”. It is a small hollow trunk with only one patch, which is played with both hands and stroked with the fingers. In order to play it the instrument is placed between the legs, under the arm or the player sits on the side where the patch is placed. Diverse musical rhythms are used as in the case of the Salve, the Pri-pri, the Carabine and Son.
