The Gaga as a cultural expression is part of the African heritage in the island of the Hispaniola. In Haiti and the Dominican Republic this holiday celebrates the arrival of spring, which coincides with the celebrations and rituals of the Catholic liturgy during Easter celebrations.
In the Dominican Republic, we find three types of Gagá and in this picture we see an artist playing a piece of “bamboo” at the San Luis group, near the city of Santo Domingo, this is known as the “Sugar mill Gagá”.
